The Island Gift of Life Foundation

Past Services

Over the years, The Island Gift of Life Foundation has provided various services for those in need of financial or ancillary support. To better understand what we do, here are some specific examples of cases. Of course, the identity of our patients is not revealed as we adhere strictly to the medical privacy laws (HIPPA Regulations).

  • Travel expenses to Boston Children's Hospital for a child with rare bone disease. From there, brokered a deal with the hospital to lower an outstanding bill and then paid a significant portion of that bill.

  • Covered a significant portion of uninsured expenses for a patient with lung cancer.

  • Through direct negotiations both with doctors and hospitals we have decreased many other outstanding bills for our patients, in some cases by as much as 75%.

  • We assisted a severely debilitated patient with Multiple Sclerosis by arranging and paying for frequent custodial visits, installing a Med Alert system, applying for disability insurance and making the residence more handicapped accessible.

  • The Foundation paid for postoperative rehabilitation for a patient after a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant.
